Coach Matt Kelley grew up in the Syracuse area of New York and played high school lacrosse at Saratoga Springs High School in the Albany area. He went on to play attack in college for Fairfield University. After college graduation, he moved to Colorado (Summit County) to compete in snowboarding (halfpipe). He lives in Lafayette with his wife of 11 years, his twin daughters and his two chocolate labs.
Coach Kelley began his career when he arrived in Boulder (circa 1999) as the head JV coach with the Boulder County combined team (Boulder, Fairview, Monarch, Dawson and Nederland). After pushing BVSD to split the team in 2001, he accepted the position as the head coach of Boulder High, where stayed for 11 years. When his daughters were born, he stepped down from Boulder High to become a dad.
Not wanting to leave coaching entirely, he joined the Dawson school as an assistant coach and worked hard with the friends on staff there to return that program to dominance. After 4 years at Dawson, which included Boulder County's first and only semi-final playoff appearance, he accepted the position at Fairview.
Coach Kelley believes in holding his team and players to high standards, teaching character and leadership, and having fun. He encourages players to become multisport athletes by participating in other sports, besides lacrosse and to become well-rounded individuals by participating in other activities in school and community.
In order to fulfill this role, he has been working to hire a top-notch staff in the past few weeks. Here is the anticipated staff for 2015-2016 along with their college alma mater (or in some cases, current college).
